Frontispiece portrait in color from a painting by Charles E. Brock (1870-1938), who reportedly landed his first commission in 1890. The eight additional internal plates are unsigned B&W engravings. Lists previous titles by this author (uniform at 2s. 6d each) through "Tales from the Telling House" (1895) but this is later -- sometimes listed as 1918, which sounds about right. Totals 517 pp. of moderately small type (8 pt., actually.) The 1951 Hollywood adaptation starred Barbara Hale (Della Street) and Richard Greene (Robin Hood), while Maurice Tourneur directed an earlier, 1922 silent version starring Madge Bellamy.
