Vendeur : Riverby Books, Fredericksburg, VA, Etats-Unis
Hardcover. Etat : Good. Hardcover. Full leather binding with gold lettering on two black labels over spine. Marbled endpapers. The first page has the signature of a previous owner (illegible), and a location -- Gloucester Co, Virginia. The next page bears the name of another owner, this time in pencil: J. T. Perrin, at William and Mary College in Williamsburg. Neither place is so very far from where I write now -- Fredericksburg. Title page dated 1854. Originally published in 1833. 560 pages. The leather is worn away at the hinges, and the boards remain attached solely by two cords. Boards are rubbed and worn at edges, with corners rounded. Binding of textblock is strong. A few pencil notes in the margins -- otherwise unmarked. There are over 45 chapters in this volume, covering a good many topics, beginning with Taste and 'The sublime in Writing', to Eloquence of Public Speaking, and the Nature of Poetry. Overall, the text remains readable, though it is perhaps a candidate for re-binding.
