The e first full Japanese translation of Lord Byron's dramatic work "Cain : a Mystery". e play was originally published in 1821, and followed the story of Cain and Abel from Cain's point of view. e translator, Kimura Takataro, was a historian, philosopher, and linguist. e book includes a 42-page supplement on Byron's stance on religion, titled "Jindo to Yasokyo to no Shototsu" (meaning "the collision of humanity and Christianity"), and one black and white frontispiece. Original boards, a little worn, binding slightly cocked. First few pages starting to loosen. Ex-bookseller sticker to lower pastedown. Light browning to endpapers and first and last few pages. Occasional minor foxing and marks to text, but overall very good. 1 v., complete. 188, 42 p. 19 x 12.8 cm. Text in Japanese.
