8vo. 6 x 8 inches. Concertina type view-book of sepia glazed lithographs, extending to c.80 inches, containing 16 different images, including 3 double page of the Cathedral and West Gate. Printed in Germany Bound in original cloth spine over red decorated boards, blocked in gilt and including monogram of the publisher, Charles, Reynolds and Co. Some wear to extremities, but otherwise a very good copy. Publisher's advertisement on rear pastedown. This type of view book originates in Germany and is an example of the curious mixture of photograph and drawing which were prolific from about 1875 to 1895 when photography finally won the day. Published by Charles, Reynolds of London, the albums in this series frequently had the labels of local sellers pasted on to them; in this case the well known Canterbury guide book publishers, H. J.
