Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Poor. A beautiful copy bound in bright red cloth in an acceptable original jacket. Pages are evenly toned, else fine. Jacket has significant wear in the form of chips and creases around the edges. A third of the jacket spine has been repaired with cello tape on the inside of the jacket. "The Ciano Diaries (1936-1943)" is a compelling firsthand account penned by Count Galeazzo Ciano, an Italian diplomat and Mussolini's son-in-law. Covering the years leading up to and during World War II, the diaries offer an insider's perspective into the inner workings of Mussolini's fascist regime and Italy's shifting alliances. Ciano provides candid observations on key political figures, diplomatic negotiations, and military strategies of the era. His diary offers valuable insights into the complexities and intrigues of European politics during one of the most tumultuous periods in history. (loc: 33).

Card covers trade paperback size, xxiii/624pp. Corners/edges of covers lightly worn; a very good copy. Ciano was foreign minister under Mussolini as well as his son-in-law. In his introduction, Muggeridge claims that the value of this diary lies in its naivete and Ciaro's lack of cleverness. Because of these, Ciaro does not hide any of his activities during this time, so much of Mussolini's actions during the war are described in none too flattering terms, and the character of the players and their relationships with one and other are revealed.
