Soft cover. Etat : Near Fine. 1st Edition. Wraps (PB) in near fine condition. Inscribed and dated by author title page. Around mid-January, 1914, two amateur botanists, Jacob Landa and Georges Prudhomme, meet in Peking at the start of a journey which will take them across China to the Tibetan Marches in search of as yet unknown species of Alpine flora. At the time, Jacob Landa's decision to embark on this journey aroused the fiercest opposition from his father, who subsequently banished him from the family circle. Turned into 'the man one does not talk about', the reasons for the quarrel remain unexplained. Many years afterwards, Landa's great-nephew, David Landa, gains possession of the Journal Landa wrote while in China and Tibet. With this in his hands, he struggles to understand why his great-uncle was so harshly treated. Uncertain of his findings, however, he presents the Journal in its entirety, leaving the reader to decide whether or not his conclusions are justified. 549 pages. Inscribed by Author(s).
