Hardcover. Etat : Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. Demi Hitz (illustrateur). A very nice hardcover copy in dust jacket. Dust jacket has a tiny scar on back flap edge, otherwise without flaw. 5.5 X 7.5" 177 pages. Written during the 8th-century's T'ang Dynasty, Lu Yu's Ch'a Ching, or The Classic of Tea, has, for over one thousand years, provided tea drinkers with practical and spiritual knowledge of the art of tea-brewing, and is the text primarily responsible for elevating the drinking of tea to its unique place of veneration in Chinese life. More than a manual, The Classic of Tea is an expression of a philosophy, an approach to life, and a meditation on a drink whose essence embodies the harmonious and orderly processes by which it is created. Long out of print, this edition by Francis Ross Carpenter was the first complete translation of The Classic of Tea to appear in the West. Including an introduction, pen and ink sketches and reproductions of early Chinese paintings of tea production, this quietly contemplative book is as soothing as a perfect cup of tea.
