Soft cover. Etat : Near Fine. Raymond Thiolliere [1881-1929] (illustrateur). 1st Edition. 4to. (7.5 x 9.25") 125p. Illustrated with 50 original woodcuts by Raymond Thiolliere. Yellow wrappers printed in black and decorated in black and red with a vignette on the front cover of a flowering vine. All edges untrimmed. Just touches of wear to extremities, slightly foxed endpapers, wrappers ever so lightly soiled, small dampstain on front wrapper and first two pages, corners square and flat, some pages uncut, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Georges Duhamel [1884-1966] served as a front-line surgeon during the First World War and was deeply disillusioned by the experience. In Civilisation he records his experiences treating the wounded. The book won the Goncourt Prize when first published in 1918 and has been reprinted many times. Duhamel was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature 27 times. Raymond Thiolliere [1881-1929] illustrated several books in the Le Livre de Demain series for Artheme Fayard. Text in French.
