Illustration in black to front cover as well as gilded lettering; black lettering to spine. Spine has lost upper and lower portion, but book block is in excellent condition with tight binding and no markings or wear. Corners of cover have been rubbed.

Binding is tight, sturdy, and square; light wear to edges of green cloth boards, color plate and stamped black titling remain bold; damp-spotting and some minor puckering to cloth on rear board; illustrations and text remain clean, not touched by the rather faint liquid staining. Dust jacket is in two pieces, split along spine; light toning, dust smudging in addition to water stain, a few chips and closed tears at edges as well; jacket wrapped in protective mylar. Signed and inscribed by two generations of previous owners on front endpaper (one is dated Christmas 1923) . A charming and sweet book despite flaws still an attractive copy. Free of any markings, not ex-library. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 69 pages.

Color frontispiece of dog is lifting from page, but remains attached along upper edge. Title page not dated. Copyright page dated 1915. 70 pages. Neat dedication to top of 2nd blank page. Slight marking to top of pdfep.Binding firm and text neat and clean. Very nice copy.

Each coloured plate is accompanied by tissue guard sheet with descriptive letterpress. Maud Earl was an eminent British-American canine painter who painted works for Royalty. Charming gift dedication in cursive on flyleaf, 'Dorothy from Father Xmas, 1933'. The story about the author acquiring a two-month-old black cocker spaniel puppy and his life with this dog. A lovely publication on heavy stock and well preserved.
