Illustrated card binding fair, lacks spine, rubbed etc. Contents fair/good, no owners name, folding map good, but does have tape repair to rear not affecting front, and ink note base, most pages in good condition, Map attached to title page with illustration rear are detached together. Very rare and confusing book, could not find another copy exactly the same, found 1885 & 1888 books titled Walks in Epping Forest by Lindsey. Found mention of what could be the same in an review of the time mentions 1885 and same publisher "123 125, Fleet Street, E.C., and at all Booksellers" and only one map. Where as this Title page is very unhelpful as not dated, states new edition with illustration and maps and only edited by Lindsey, no authors given even though lists Percy Lindsey and the others within the book as authors. Title page states title as "Walks in Epping Forest " and front cover states title as "Walks in Epping Forest, a handbook to the forest paths with cycling and driving routes. Illustrated " Interestingly the review states one map. This book is very rare with one folding map, many illustrations either within text or full page. Page numbers include the illustrations and the blank rear of a few illustrated pages, includes sections on it's History, Geology, Railway, Chingford, how to get there, Forrest Walks, Fauna & Flora (insects /birds etc.) & The Royal Forest Hotel. This book states maps, but this book has only one map and does not list any in index. And found another similar full titled book with both with a 1885 date, but does not give number of pages, in fact could not find another listed with same pages, not even in BL (BL has one of 108 pages dated 1888). We have had a small number of local books like this that were self published in editions of less than 100, even only 25 copies, but then picked up and 2nd or 3rd edition was published in a edition of 100 or more and many times they do not state an edition. When was this published, well found ref rear 3rd edition, looks to be 1880's possibly 1885? and very rare. Size: 12 x 18cm. Approx.
