White mottling to the green boards else in very good condition. Jacket is poor condition with pieces of the jacket missing from the bottom edge of the front covers and the top of the spine area. Jacket is protected by a new, clear, loose fitting sellophane wrapper.

Hardcover. Etat : Good. 8vo green cloth with pictorial design in black. New edition of 1928. Illustrated for children by Harry Furniss. Good condition. Spine sunned and chipped to both ends, corners bumped, neat inscription to front endpaper, light foxing in places. Delightful , amusing story about a seven-year-old Scottish boy and his somewhat surreal adventures, including the Halibuts" dinner party (with boy as the main course) and the tale of the wily fox who played Kakowowski"s Sonata in H minor on the piano-organ. Lively line drawings: "there is little doubt that Furniss was one of the most talented black and white artists of the time" (Houfe).

Illustrated with a frontispiece and many full-page and in-text images. A charming and entertaining children's book following the lives of villages in Glen Guile, where it was always summer. Written by Sir Edward Abbott Parry, a British judge and dramatist. Illustrated by Harry Furniss, a British illustrator who established his career on the Illustrated London News before moving to Punch. In the original red cloth binding with gilt. Externally, smart with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and board edges with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting predominantly to the first and last few pages. Light age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Very Good. book.
