Vendeur : Old Book Surfer, Cambridge, NY, Etats-Unis
Hard Cover. First edition, stated. 246 pgs, 8vo. Black cloth, pasted-paper title plate in decorative type on the front cover, in lieu of jacket it seems. No spine titles, almost no wear. An austere and in its way beautiful book, enhanced by illus. of Guy Arnoux in linocuts within the text. Clean unmarked pages, fore-edge untrimmed , by design. A flowery biography, not written in the scholar's heavy prose, but effective and impressionistic, with some quotations from Rabelais himself, and, more reliably, many from his works. The author says he wrote the story, "as I would tell it in an alehouse", and that is its charm for us. Fine condition, no jacket, as issued.
