Account by the English plant hunter and rock and alpine gardener of his two-year expedition with Kew-trained plant collector William Purdom to Tibet and the province of Kansu in north-west China in 1914-15. Farrer brought back to England many new plants gathered during his expeditions including the 'Geranium ferreri', named after him by Otto Stapf in 1926. Farrer died in 1920 while on an expedition to Upper Burma in the remote Minshan mountains.
