Livre Edition originale
Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Jacket and illustrations by Agnes Nanogak (illustrateur). 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. Some edge wear, chipping and short closed tears to top and bottom of jacket and spine, some yellowing to largely white jacket, corners slightly bruised, not price clipped ($4.95), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg++ copy for its age. 128pp, illustrated endpapers. The twenty two tales presented here are those of a group of Inuit known as the Copper Eskimos, a people who have for centuries occupied a harsh and forbidding land along the Canadian Arctic coast. this delightful collection of their traditional legends and fables reveals a view of man, nature and the supernatural very much influenced by the realities of a life style bound to that land, illustrated by Inuit artist Agnes Nanogak. Father Maurice Metayer(1914-74), was a Roman Catholic missionary who came to northern Canada in 1939, serving at missions in Coppermine (Kugluktuk), Holman Island (Ulukhaktok), Reid Island and Cambridge Bay. He also served for several years as official chaplain for the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line. His hobby was recording legends and stories of the indigenous Inuit.
