La presente opera in due volumi che ho avuto il piacere di curare e dare alle stampe è il frutto di una vasta collaborazione di cuori e di menti di Calitri. I due volumi hanno carattere molto diverso l'uno dall'altro (storico il primo, celebrativo il secondo), anche se entrambi nascono nel quadro del giubileo sacerdotale di don Vincenzo Cubelli. Nel coordinare voci considerevolmente diverse, ho voluto in don Vincenzo rendere omaggio a tutti quei sacerdoti che svolgono nel silenzio il loro ministero, prezioso agli occhi del Signore. Ringrazio gli autori che, quasi tutti, mi hanno lasciato una notevole libertà d'intervenire ai fini dell'unità dell'opera. Ma ho cercato di non farlo, se non per evitare inutili ripetizioni. A dire il vero, alcuni ritorni sullo stesso tema ci sono stati. Tuttavia, non ho ritenuto opportuno sacrificare alcunché, in quanto gli stessi temi (fondazione della Congrega, culto dei morti, emigrazione, ecc.) sono stati affrontati da angolazioni molto diverse. Sono convinto che, nonostante la varietà delle voci, si possa parlare di un'opera organica, che va a colmare la lacuna lasciata da quel pioniere di studi calitrani che fu Vito Acocella, stranamente disinteressato alla Congrega. Eppure, ogni calitrano sa bene quale peso essa abbia avuto nelle vicende della religiosità del paese. Mi si permetta anche di dire che il secondo volume, anche se ha un carattere celebrativo, contiene tutta una serie di memorie e di testimonianze, per non parlare della documentazione riportata in appendice, onde l'aspetto celebrativo diventa davvero complementare, andando a inserirsi meravigliosamente nell'insieme del discorso. Quanto alla parte iconografica, l'ho divisa in varie sezioni, in modo da presentarsi anch'essa come un supporto documentario. Ho cercato sempre, ove ho trovato il riferimento, di indicare il fotografo. Ma, è più che probabile, in un numero così elevato di fotografie, che abbia commesso non poche omissioni, per non dire errori veri e propri. Spero che i rapporti di amicizia che legano me e Vito Alfredo Cerreta ad Armando Santoro, Vito Galgano e Foto Flash, spingeranno questi e altri eventuali fotografi a essere comprensivi. Io, per parte mia, garantisco che tutto ho fatto nella più assoluta buona fede e per l'amore che porto al mio paese.
