Livre Edition originale
Half-Leather. Etat : Very Good. Caroline Franklin-Grout-Flaubert (illustrateur). 1st Edition. 273pp Flaubert's first adult book, an account of his trip to Brittany with Maxime du Camp. Text in French. With personal dedication by the illustrator who was Gustave Flaubert's beloved niece 'Caro' - the writer played a large role in her upbringing after her mother's early death. The bankruptcy of her first husband was a disaster for Flaubert - he himself faced severe financial difficulties through his sacrifices to protect Caroline's name. She became a very competent artist and had no more financial problems after her second marriage to Franklin Grout. She built an extravagant villa in Antibes called 'Villa Tanit' - a reference to Flaubert's novel 'Salammbô', from where she dedicated this copy.
