A. H. Payne. Leipzig and Dresden. J. Hagger, London. No date - circa 1850. Very Large 4to. Handsomely bound in half black morocco gilt. Gilt decorations to compartments of spine, contrasting lettering piece. Top edge of pages gilt. 696 pages. Frontis., extra title page plus 31 plates, each of them delicately and individually hand-coloured in a very professional manner, each with tissue guard. Some decorative initial letters also tinted by hand. The book is foxed but the plates have mostly escaped this because of the guards. A very beautiful volume, uniquely hand-coloured, which would make a wonderful Christening or Wedding present.
