Original full dark brown leather scuffed, board corners worn, slender abrasion along joints with short split at head of rear joints, small nicks at spine ends, spine retains original black title label with bright gilt stamping. Strong toning to edges affecting leaves at margins; old antiquarian ink signature on front free endpaper; old pencil scribbling/writing on front endpapers, front flyleaf, and rear pastedown; moisture staining to early leaves, occasional creased top and bottom page corners with few being chipped or torn (nut not affecting text); foxing and toning throughout. Binding is firm. Standard early to mid-19th century instructional reference for American surveying first published in Hartford, Connecticut in 1804 with OCLC citing editions through 1858. Abraham Lincoln acquired a copy of "Flint's Survey" (along with a surveying text by Robert Gibson) for study upon his appointment as deputy surveyor of Sangamon County, Illinois in 1833.
