W.P.B. 1900" [William Phillips Barrett] featuring a furnished study with imps taking books from a small bookcase and cherubs returning them. Along the ceiling cornice is the phrase: "Their Backs Well Bound I like to See But Whats Inside Is Greek To Me". "Florence Baird" is contained in a scroll on a carpet. 6.9cm x 4.8cm. Lightly soiled. Book description: A very good 19th century half calf binding. 12.6cm x 8.0cm x 2.2cm. pp.208/pp.199. Polished green calf spine and corners over marbled boards. Spine with 4 raisde bands bright gilt decorated compartments and original crimson leather title label. Marbled page edges. original brown endpapers.
