AN STUNNING, COMPLETE SET OF STÜRLER'S ILLUSTRATIONS FOR THE DIVINE COMEDY, one of the great 19th-century conceptions of Dante's text, LIMITED TO 100 NUMBERED COPIES AND PRACTICALLY NEVER FOUND COMPLETE. A brief "avertissement" by Stürler followed by a longer preface by Henri Delaborde. Fine lithographed portrait of Stürler after Ingres on chine appliqué, and 111 mixed etchings by Baudran after Stürler, also on chine appliqué, each with a facing explanatory sheet beautifuly printed by Didot on very fine wove paper. Large folios (49.1 cm). Elegantly bound in contemporary half morocco and decorated boards, spines with fleurons in six compartments. FINE AND BRIGHT, INSIDE AND OUT. THIS SET HAS BEEN ENTIRELY MOUNTED ON HINGES AND IS IN ABSOLUTELY PERFECT CONDITION, INTERNALLY SPOTLESS AND PRISTINE. VERY RARE AND IMPORTANT.
