Folio in a case. Etat : Near fine. Folio size, 19 unnumbered pages, with facsimiles of the manuscripts of each poem. Wystan Hugh Auden (1907-1973) was an English-American poet, known for his variety of styles and subject matter, including politics, love, and religion; this collection of poems by various poets serves as a tribute to Auden's profound influence on the contemporary literature of the time and a celebration of the first Ilkley Literature Festival, which was opened by Auden during the last year of his life. Beginning the collection is Auden's poem "Lullaby", an unconventional love poem, followed by poems by ten other writers; each poet was asked to take a title or epigraph from Auden's published work as a starting point, and each offers a unique voice, connected through an admiration of Auden and the forms of his poetry. Included also are facsimiles of the manuscripts of each poem, printed on beautiful Amatruda Amalfi paper. ___DESCRIPTION: Light green two-fold cardstock folio with dark green cloth spine, with flap on the inside back cover to hold items, black lettering on the front cover, the folio enclosing a light green soft cover volume with staples containing poems, black lettering on the front cover, and twenty-three loose facsimiles of the manuscripts of each poem; Amatruda Amalfi paper, folio size (14" by 10.5"), pagination: volume with nineteen unnumbered pages, plus twenty-three loose pages; paper has soft creasing from being dampened to print and dried without flattening. ___CONDITION: Soft cover volume is fine; with clean covers, straight corners with no rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings. Cardstock folio is near fine, with clean covers, and entirely free of prior owner markings; some rubbing to the bottom and fore-edges and the head and tail of the spine, top and bottom corners bumped, and some slight sunning to the top edges of the inside covers. Loose facsimiles of manuscripts are fine, clean and uncreased, with only a few spots of soiling on a couple of the poems. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Special Edition. A portfolio of poetry by W.H. Auden and ten notable poets who all submitted a signed manuscript version of their work as a tribute to Auden. These fellow-poets were commissioned "to take a title or epigraph from one of Auden's published works as a starting point for an original composition". The Scolar Press printed facsimiles of these contributions on white laid paper. The paper is watermarked "L'Amatruda" and originates from a paper mill in Amalfi, Salerno (Italy). These facsimile manuscripts are contained within a pocket at the rear inside cover of a lime green card folder. The folder is bound with black tape to the spine and black lettering. Also enclosed is a staple-bound unpaginated 12pp booklet (measures 220mm x 335mm) in similar coloured thin card. All poems are present except one of the pages in the booklet has not been printed. Part of the poem "TV Coverage" by James Kirkup and beginning of the poem "Afterwards" by George Macbeth is missing from the printed book. However, these two poems (and the others) are all present in the printed set of facsimiles. What makes this particular copy of the commemorative edition of poetry special is that each of the 10 facsimile poems has EACH been SIGNED a second time by the poets themselves (ie NOT a facsimile signature). Altogether in very good condition - slight edgewear to outer card folder. Signed by Author(s).
