Former owner's book plate is affixed to the front endpaper. Small bumps at the upper edges of both covers. Dust soiling to the edges of the upper page block. Toning to the page margins. Front board has mild staining on head edge, mild shelving wear, rear board has mild bend on head corner, spine has small white stains, mild wear to head and tail, and a small bump above tail. Textblock has mild indents on fore edges of title page to page 14, some pencil marks throughout, mild foxing from front end-paper to page vii and from rear end-paper to page 413, pen inscription on front end-paper and rear end-paper, paper-clip stain and indent from rear pastedown to page 413, small paper wedge between rear end-paper and pastedown, pocket on rear pastedown holding 14 diagrams, moderate aging on tail and fore edges, and heavy black staining on head edge. Jutland was the largest sea battle of WWI. Fought in the North Sea, the battle was a tactical draw, although the British lost more ships and men they maintained control of the North Sea. The copy is signed by Gibson and dated Dec 1934 . Good copy of the first edition. The book has wear to the spine's tabs. At some time both have had attempted repairs with glue.
