Book itself literaly like new. All text block edges clean as a whistle. Tips perfectly square, no rubbing or bumping. End paper maps, & all text, frre of even the slightest aging, foxing, etc. Furthur the book stays closed when stood on its spine. DJ complete with $3.50 price. DJ quite nice, extrems with minor wear; a few 1/8" chips but no tears. Some minor rubbing of edges and rear panel. DJ rear panel states Goldstein was a long time revolutionary fighter, first against the Tsar, last against the Germans in WWII Warsaw.

Ce livre-témoignage raconte les cinq années de résistance clandestine qui menèrent à cet ultime combat. Bernard Goldstein appartenait à la direction du Bund , l'organisation révolutionnaire des travailleurs juifs de Pologne. Trop connu pour pouvoir militer à visage découvert dans le ghetto, il fut exfiltré en zone aryenne afin de coordonner la jonction avec la résistance polonaise. Rescapé, il émigra aux États-Unis dans l'immédiat après-guerre, où il écrivit son récit des événements. Goldstein raconte l'invasion de la Pologne en 1939, les débuts de l'occupation, les premières mesures antisémites, l'instauration du ghetto en octobre 1940, la vie quotidienne à l'intérieur de celui-ci, les persécutions, les rafles, les grandes déportations, la découverte par les agents du Bund de la vérité de l'extermination, et la résolution obstinée, une fois le sort connu, de rester debout et de combattre jusqu'à la fin. Il nous offre un témoignage poignant, un véritable tombeau à la mémoire des combattants du ghetto qui, comprenant peu à peu que l'issue serait fatale, se dressèrent contre la mort, pour la dignité humaine. Bernard Goldstein appartenait à ce que l'on a appelé le Yiddishland révolutionnaire : à la fois juif et antisioniste, socialiste et antistalinien, son témoignage avait été occulté des mémoires.
