Etat : Fair. 1916. 316 pages. Beige pictorial boards with black lettering. Inscription to front pastedown. Pages are moderately tanned and thumbed at the edges, with moderate foxing. Binding has remained firm. Boards have been moderately rub worn. Noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed Spine ends are crushed, with noticeable splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

1st. Edn. 16mo. (18cm. tall x 12cm.). pp. x, 316. Black & white frontispiece in line after Bernard Partridge. In the original lettered brown paper covered boards. Slight wear at head and tail of spine. The rather cheap wartime paper shows marginal browning. This apart a very good copy. A wake-up call for Britain whose World leadership was well in decline. The book contains well documented analyses and statistics of education, economics, commerce, industry and commerce.

Card covers, VG. x+316pp, b/w frontis, paper rather yellowed at the edges, spine with a small split at the base, Bookplate of the Crittall Social Club Library on the verso of the upper cover & an inked refrence to the same on the endpaper, a 'Presentation Edition' with the words 'with the compliments of Alexander Duckham & Co Ltd, Lubricant specialists' printed to the centre of the upper cover. A call for educational reform in England with particular reference to Engineering & Science. The author's claim that Britain will be left behind by the rest of the world in manufacturing capacity & leadership if the education of the youth of Britain is not overhauled to include Techincal Colleges & better educational options for women. The Crittall Manufacturing Company Ltd made steel framed windows at their factory in Witham Essex. They are still there today. 325 grams.
