Dust jacket rubbed; string sunning to spine; shallow chips, short tears, and creasing/bumping at edges. Green cloth; mottling at top and bottom board edges. Author's four-line ink inscription "To my friends | Dr. + Mrs. Albert Casey | with highest esteem, | Seale Harris" upon the front free endpaper. Some ink underlining on page 65 with no other occurrences readily apparent upon a cursory perusal. Binding retains some crispness. Laid-in at front endpapers is a Seal Harris pamphlet "Burns' Philosophy of Life." This book was acquired from the estate of Birmingham, Alabama pathologist, bibliophile, and genealogist Dr. Albert Eugene Casey (1903-1982) who served as director of laboratories at Birmingham Baptist Hospitals from 1942-1972 and his wife Joanne Gunn Casey (1919-2023), a medical researcher who worked on the polio vaccine in the 1940s-1950s before joining her husband in studying genetic and hematological links to disease susceptibility and, in particular, cancer.
