Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good -. First Edition. This 72-page, ex-library offering in VG-/VG- condition is Moliere's The Misanthrope, Modern English Adaptation by Tony Harrison, published in 1973 by The Third Press, in association with Joseph Okpaku Publishing Company, Inc. This First Printing has the standard library markings, a small number of the lines on three pages in Act One are singled out with small arrows of yellow highliter next to them, some modest yellowing of book's pages, and some shelf wear evident at top and bottom edges of spine, and at one smallish spot on bottom edge of front cover piece. Its dust jacket shows library markings, and very slight shelf wear at top and bottom edges of jacket spine. From front inside jacket flap, "This new version of Moliere's masterpiece. was commissioned for the tercentenary of Moliere's death, and was produced at the Old Vic on 22 February, 1973, by the National Theatre Company[with Dame Diana Rigg among the cast]. This adaptation.is set in the France of 1966---exactly 300 years after the first performance of Moliere's play in 1666. The transposition to the 'reign' of Charles de Gaulle helps to clarify the truly human dilemmas in the play so often obscured behind the frills and stiffness of traditional productions". Book has many, many black and white photographs of the performance of 2-22-73 throughout text, featuring Dame Diana, and others!.
