Trade Paperback. Etat : Very Good. Eighth Printing. 70 Pages. Staple bound. As new condition. No defects noted and interior text and illustration pages are near flawless. This is the 2004 Eighth Printing of the Revised 1981 printing and the 1992 Copyright. Elizabeth "Betty" Wied Hayden came to Jackson Hole to live in 1930. Her husband, Dudley Hayden, was the second permanent Ranger assigned to the newly created Grand Teton National Park. They lived a life not much different from the homesteaders of the turn of the century. Betty was fascinated by Jackson Hole and its history, and she personally knew many of those who were involved in the later events she writes about. The result of her interest was this book which first appeared in 1957. It is still perhaps the most comprehensive history of the area available. In 1979, Betty turned this publication over to the Grand Teton Natural History Association. The Association is pleased to present it with Betty's particular flavor still intact, with very few revisions and the addition of many early photographs of Jackson Hole. Contents in 15 Chapters: The Valley, Discovery by Trappers, The Town of Jackson, Pastimes, The Mountain Men 1822-1830, Prospectors and Surveyors, First Settlements, Growing Up On Jackson Hole, Getting Around in Jackson, Trapping Hunting and Fishing, Early Day Jackson Hole, Mountain Valley Ranching, Public Versus Private use, Early Grand Teton National Park and Photo Credits.
