[Tokyo] 1956. A holographic letter in pen, one sheet 21 x 29 cm., signed & dated by Kazuo Koizumi, Hearn's son, 3 folds on airmail tissue paper, 21 manuscript lines of text, very clean, no issues, addressed to Miss. Helen Laverty. R A R E! . *** *** *** . . RARE ORIGINAL HOLOGRAPHIC PENNED LITTER IN KAZUO'S HAND . . . A LETTER DATED FEBRUARY 1, 1956 . . . TWENTY-ONE LINES TO A CALIFORNIA FRIEND . . . IN THANKS FOR A CHRISTMAS GIFT OF CANDIED FRUITS . . * The letter is addressed to Miss Helen Laverty. . According to the letter, Kazuo thanked Miss Helen Laverty for the kind gift of California candied "Mission Pak" fruits as a Christmas gift most likely sent in late 1955. . *** Kazuo stated in part: . "In January I have got again the sudden attack of neuralgia and I was in bed about two weeks, idle one's time away. but fortunately now I recovered. . Please excuse my delay to answer your kind letter and express our thanks to your merciful gift. . .We think of you often. How we wish you could come again to Japan. . My wife & son [Toki] send their kindest regards to you. Again I wish to thank you for that lovely Christmas gift, and we hope 1956 is a good year for you. . With kindest regards, sincerely, [signed] Kazuo Koizumi." . *** Manuscripts by Kazuo are rare, and seldom found. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** CONDITION: This letter is an excellent example, folded as usual, without blemish or issues. . *** REFERENCE: . Helen Marie Laverty (Dourain) [1887-1967]: After a careful search for Ms. Laverty we did find some brief information about her & her family in northern California. She was born in Korbel, Humboldt County. . Although we searched extensively for her and any known connection to her and the Koizumi Kazuo or the Hearn family, nothing was found. . Obviously Ms. Laverty had visited Kazuo some time before 1956, perhaps in 1955 and as a thank you for Kazuo's hospitality while in Japan, she sent him a Christmas gift. . The only useful link we found was the results of a Google search: geni dot com /people/Helen-Laverty/6000000003678175608 . *.
