/Stuart Hardy, illustrator. (illustrateur). CONDITION: Good Plus; extrems rubbed and bumped, pp. 71-80 have creased corners, a half inch gutter small tear, quite clean and straight with a lovely top board and very faded spine. Juvenile hardback. Ivan's father returns from India to find that his kind and beautiful wife has died, leaving this small son. As the book progresses the timid child becomes braver and the father more sensitive. Hard to imagine as a children's book, yet the inscription reads, "Master Lionel Tennyson. With love and best wishes from His dear Old Nana S. F. His eighth birthday, Nov-ber 7th 1897" and it was apparently read and reread. (Lionel Hallam Tennyson, 3rd Baron Tennyson (1889 to 1951) was the grandson of the poet. He became a famous cricketer and a humorous writer. A treasure. ABE Heritage Seller since 1996; conservative AB condition grading. We ship all our books in cardboard protection. International shipping. /Stuart Hardy, illustrator.
