Very Good (covers bright; contents clean & tight); some edgewear (shallow chips, short tears) d/j. Small 8vo., light-green cloth in dust jacket; 357 pages First Edition. Interesting signed presentation from Hogan on the front endpaper: "For Em Bowles Locker with all best wishes for a Merry Christmas, 25 December 1942 From her friend Pendleton Hogan." Em Bowles Locker was a Richmond, Virginia socialite and, when a college student at Vassar, snuck into a screen test session in New York City that was looking for someone to play the role of Scarlett O'Hara in the upcoming Selznick film "Gone With The Wind." She waited until all of her competition had left for lunch and then went into the central office and announced that she was Scarlett O'Hara- sent by God. Well, Selznick Studio officials were so impressed with her that she eventually landed an official screen test for the role, which famously went to Vivian Leigh. Pendleton Hogan, who graduated from Roanoke College in 1929, led an interesting life filled with diverse interests and activities. He was a published novelist, world traveler, antiquarian, Hollywood film advisor, art collector, historian, architect, war veteran and, ultimately, philanthropist.
