Illustrated with four full color plates plus a two page color title spread. Used but sound copy in chipped dustjacket. Yellow cloth printed in red, illustrated endpapers, illustrated dustjacket. The book has some very light edgeewar, a bit of discoloration along the joints, good hinges, sound but not firm text block (but no loosened pages), some foxing to the color plates and adjacent pages, personal bookplate on front pastedown, pages otherwise clean and unmarked. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and has considerable rubbing and light soil, a large chip at the spine head which affects the book's title, a few short closed tears to the top edge of the front panel. Hard Cover. Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

A little shelf wear and some slight bumping of corners. Spine a little faded/soiled. Pictorial onlay to front board bright and clean with only very slight rubbing. Binding sound with the exception of the four pages containing the foreword and the contents which have become detached and are just loosely inserted. Previous owner's name to ffep. Small amount of tanning to endpapers. No dust jacket. Three full page colour illustrations by Frank E. Schoonover, decorated endpapers and various line drawings. There is a foundation of fact underlying most of these adventures; either the stories are based on actual happenings or are events that might well have taken place in those days when there were so many Salem pepper ships off the coast of Sumatra that the Malays thought Salem was a country by itself. Book.
