He was celebrated for promoting Darwin's evolutionary theories, for which he was nicknamed 'Darwin's Bulldog'. This interesting book about physical geography, also encompassing weather systems, geology and astronomy, was first published in the 1870s. This edition was posthumously revised by R A Gregory, first published in 1904 with many more illustrations (over 300 b & w photographs and line drawings). Hardback cover in green cloth with black titles on front & spine. Cover marked on front. Spine faded and bumped at top & bottom, and at corners. Binding firm. Text good with a few annotations by former owner. 415 pp + Index.
