Livre
Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : very good. Joan Hassall (illustrateur). reprint. First edition. Light wear to tips, corners and edges of the ribbed jacket. First edition of 1974, first printing. Intended for the student, academic or folklorist more than for bedtime stories. The Opie's were a married team of folklorists, who applied modern techniques to children's literature, summarized in their studies The Oxford Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes (1951) and The Lore and Language of Schoolchildren (1959). They are also noted anthologists, and assembled large collections of children's literature, toys, and games. The Opies' collection of children's books and ephemera covers the 16th to 20th century and is the richest library of children's literature. It was begun in 1944, amounting in the end to 20,000 pieces. During 1988, it was donated to the Bodleian Library at Oxford University. Most items ship with free delivery confirmation, electronic tracking and jacket protectors (generally over $10.00) if applicable. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible.

Hardcover. Etat : Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Fair. Joan Hassall (illustrateur). A really lovely copy of an early edition of this well known classic children's book. The blue cloth boards are bright and fresh looking with crisp title lettering to the spine. There are no inscriptions and the pages are clean throughout. There is some browning/toning to the free end papers as can be expected. The dust jacket whilst fairly bright and clean is somewhat edge worm with some large closed tears, chipping and minor loss at the extremities. Price clipped. Now protected with a removable jacket sleeve. In all a very presentable copy.
