Facsimile edition of one of the key books on early professional books. As Catton states in his introduction: "the object of this little book is to tell in simple language, and with such detail as the official records obtainable and limited space will allow, the history of the most powerful clubs in the League to-day". Between the season of 1888-89 and 1896-97 21 clubs appeared in the First Division of the Football League. This work covers only the 16 clubs in the top flight for the 1896-97 season, with each chapter dedicated to one club offering a history of its formation and a line drawing of its leading personality. Paperback. 8vo. Very good condition.
