First edition. 114pp., frontispiece and four other black and white illustrations. James William Herries was a Scottish journalist, and was chief reporter for The Scotsman newspaper in the 1930s and '40s. In this book he describes a journey he made along the rivers Tweed and Tay in a skin-covered coracle. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and a little staining on the boards. The top of the spine is lightly bumped and there is slightly heavier bumping to the bottom of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the free endpapers and a name and date (1925) has been written on the front free endpaper.

Erste und einzige Ausgabe des Hauptwerks von John Curr (1756-1823) einem sogenannten coal-viewer, eine ursprünglichen Bezeichnung für einen Bergbauingenieurs. Curr war ein englischer Bergbauingenieur und Erfinder, der von 1781 bis 1801 als Inspektor der Kohlengruben des Herzogs von Norfolk im englischen Sheffield fungierte. Während dieser Zeit schuf er eine Reihe von Innovationen, die maßgeblich zur Entwicklung des Kohlebergbaus und der Eisenbahn beitrugen.
