Edition originale
Hardcover. Maynard Dixon (illustrateur). First edition. 367pp. Octavo [21 cm] Light yellowish brown cloth with a brown ink stamped title on the spine, and a gilt stamped title on the front cover. Good condition only. The edges of the covers are rubbed. The spine is sublty rolled. The head of the spine has two closed tears in the cloth, and there is a small loss from the cloth at the foot of the spine. There is a contemporary notation on the front free endsheet. The text block is cracked at the end. The pages at the end of the text have small stains in the bottom margins. With four illustrations in color by Maynard Dixon. Maynard Dixon's mentor, Charles Lummis, encouraged Dixon at the beginning of his painting career to leave California, and "travel East to see the real West". Maynard Dixon did just that, traveling through Montana, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. These trips provided Maynard Dixon with the inspiration to create. He was perpetually drawn to the scenes and peoples inhabiting these remote western lands.
