Hardcover. Etat : As New. Etat de la jaquette : Fine. 1st Edition. As new condition black boards with gold spine lettering contained in a fine condition non price-clipped color illustrated dust jacket. Includes Praise for The Race to Save Our Century; Dedication; Introduction: It's Always August 1914; Epilogue: The Great Campaign; Acknowledgments; and About the Authors. "Why did the seemingly placid Europe of 1914 explode into ruthless war? How did highly educated nations like Germany and deeply religious countries like Russia fall prey to totalitarian parties led by hateful cranks? And could the twenty-first century repeat the genocides, wars, and other horrors of the twentieth? Human-rights activist Jason Scott Jones and economics scholar John Zmirak warn that society is more vulnerable than ever to dangerous, pseudo-scientific theories and radical politics - degraded views of humanity that they call "Sub-humanism." Around the world, millions of people are still menaced by the "ideologies of evil" that poisoned the last 100 years: Racism, nationalism, and religious intolerance; Militarism and nuclear proliferation; Utopian collectivism and other pretexts for government control over citizens' lives; Radical individualism that neglects the poor and the vulnerable; Utilitarian ethics that treat the sick, the old, and the pre-born as dispensable. Jones and Zmirak expose the flaws in these ideologies, and offer a powerful, persuasive five-point program to reclaim human dignity, protect human rights, limit government, and restore a Culture of Life. Read it and join the great campaign to change hearts." - from the inner front jacket flap. "As a victim of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, I found hope for human dignity after reading this book. It is a must-read for college students." - Dr. Kate Xiao Zhou, Professor of Political Science, University of Hawaii. "The authors defend human life and freedom powerfully in this insightful book, and I encourage people from every part of the world to read it and take it seriously." - Professor Zhenming Zhai, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China. "The core event of the twentieth century was the attempted suicide of Western civilization. But even now there is hope. And it involves going back to the roots of that civilization that gave full meaning to human dignity and human freedom. This book shows us how." - Samuel Gregg, Research Director, the Acton Institute for Religion and Liberty. "A fresh and provocative counter-cultural argument that transcends and challenges conventional political categories. People of good will from all points on the ideological spectrum will appreciate and profit from The Race to Save Our Century." - Professor O. Carter Snead; Director, Center for Ethics and Culture, University of Notre Dame. "[The book] should be taught in every college in America." - Eric Metaxas, New York Times Bestselling author of Bonhoeffer, and Miracles.

In einer Zeit der Kriege breitet sich die Wildnis immer mehr aus. Einstmals maechtige Koenigreiche liegen versunken im Meer. Selznick had originally intended the film as a vehicle for his wife Jennifer Jones, but financial difficulties forced Selznick to sell the property, though he was still able to guarantee a role for Jones. Director Henry King's last film, nominated for an Academy Award. Set in Switzerland and on the French Riviera, shot on location in France, Italy, and Switzerland. 8 x 10 inches.
