Hardcover first edition - First US printing. Late novel by this wonderful Anglo-Irish writer who published several novels under the pseudonym M. J. Farrell in the 1920's and 1930's and who was 'rediscovered' in 1981 when she finally published a novel under her own name. In this novel, the story of a girl longing for her mother's love, who enters into a "frightful" marriage, Keane "coolly dissects the tattered manners and withering society of the Anglo-Irish upper class, creating a winsomely evil comedy" that spans most of the first half of the 20th century. 233 pp. Near fine in a fine dust jacket (tight copy, appears unread, but with a remainder mark, some toning to pages).
