Paperback. Etat : New. First Paperback Edition. SIGNED. FIRST PAPERBACK EDITION, 2018. Joy Davidman, C. S. Lewis' wife and subject of the movie Shadowlands, was a brilliant person. When she and Lewis played Scrabble, they allowed any word in in any language. She was a gifted writer which is on display in these letters. Signed by editor Don W. King on the title page. Contains: Acknowledgements, Introduction, Chronology of Joy Davidman's Life, Letters, and a Bibliography. Indexed. xxxiv, 387 pp. New. ABOUT THIS BOOK: "When Joy Davidman died of cancer in 1960, C. S. Lewis, her husband of only four years, wrote one of the great twentieth century classics about loss and grief. Who was the American woman about whom Lewis says in A Grief Observed, 'It is incredible how much happiness, even how much gaiety, we sometimes had together after all hope was gone'? Who was this woman whose love story with Lewis became the play, and later the major move, Shadowlands? Although best known as Lewis's wife, Joy Davidman was an accomplished writer in her own right, with several published works to her credit. Out of My Bone tells Davidman's life story in her own words through her numerous letters, most never published before, and her autobiographical essay, 'The Longest Way Round'." (From the back cover). ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Don W. King has been a professor of English at Montreat College since 1974 and has served as editor of the Christian Scholar's Review since 1999. He has published scholarly articles in many journals and contributed articles on Lewis's poetry to the C. S. Lewis Readers' Encyclopedia and to C. S. Lewis: Life, Works and Legacy. He is the author of several additional books about Lewis and those closest to him. Full refund if not satisfied. Shelley and Son Books specializes in C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien & the Inklings. Signed by the editor.

A Beer, a Bath & a Summer Night, fiction by King, The Forgetfulness of Monsieur Meunier. The Sleeping Boy by Flammonde. One, Inc., which took its name from Thomas Carlyle's statement that "A mystic bond of brotherhood makes all men one," was founded in LA in 1952 as a homophile organization with connections to the Mattachine Society. As the first pro-gay journal of its kind, it serves as an important source for pre-Stonewall homophile studies. In 1954 the US Post Office declared it obscene, leading to a four-year legal battle (chronicled in its pages) that concluded with a favorable decision as part of Roth vs. United States. Aside from its articles covering topics ranging from the Beatniks and Gay marriage to homosexuality and national security, One Magazine also featured poetry and short fiction by numerous prominent authors.
