Soft cover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. 58+[2 ad] pages with diagrams and index. Octavo (8 1/4" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's stapled wrappers. First edition. The English Opening is a chess opening that begins with the move: 1. c4 A flank opening, it is the fourth most popular and, according to various databases, one of the four most successful of White's twenty possible first moves. White begins the fight for the centre by staking a claim to the d5-square from the wing, in hypermodern style. Although many lines of the English have a distinct character, the opening is often used as a transpositional device in much the same way as 1.Nf3 to avoid such highly regarded responses to 1.d4 as the Nimzo-Indian and Grünfeld Defences and is considered reliable and flexible. Condition: Wrappers soiled, edge wear with bumped corners, some check marks in ad pages else good.

Soft cover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. 60+[2 ad] pages with diagrams and index. Octavo (8 1/4" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's stapled wrappers. First edition. The Reti Opening is a chess opening that begins with the moves 1. Nf3 d5 2. c4. The Reti Opening is considered a "hypermodern" opening, where white pressures the center with flank pawns and minor pieces instead of occupying it directly with the central pawns. White flexible keeps the d-and-e pawns on their starting squares for the time being, and creates pawn tension on move two to challenge black's d-pawn. Condition: Some high-lighting throughout, edge wear with bumped corners else good.

King's Indian Defense 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 The King's Indian Defense is a hypermodern aggressive opening for Black as a response for 1.d4. Following hypermodern principles, Black allows White to build a strong pawn center to later counter-attack it. A sharp opening, the King's Indian is not be the best choice for beginners. However, a number of strong grandmasters like Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov consistently employed this opening when fighting for a win with the black pieces.
