Black boards with gold lettering to the spine. No defects noted to book. Few books have touched the subject of what happens on the Flight Decks of aircraft carriers. It has been documented that these decks are the most dangerous places in the world to work. There are thousands of carrier pilots and Flight Deck personnel who will attest to this. They have lost friends on these decks-men who were in the prime of their lives. Landing on a carrier under the best of circumstances is still a "controlled crash." The concentration necessary to successfully fly aircraft on and off carrier decks builds up a tremendous pressure on carrier pilots, both physically and mentally. For this reason, we make no excuses for the excesses that some carrier pilots engage in while off-duty. Except to note that they pay a price for these excesses. The characters in this book are composites of many persons whom the authors have known during their military careers. Naturally, names have been changed to protect both the innocent and the guilty. Any resemblance to real persons is strictly coincidental.
