The concentration necessary to successfully fly aircraft on and off carrier decks builds up a tremendous pressure on carrier pilots, both physically and mentally. For this reason, we make no excuses for the excesses that some carrier pilots engage in while off-duty. Except to note that they pay a price for these excesses. The characters in this book are composites of many persons whom the authors have known during their military careers. Naturally, names have been changed to protect both the innocent and the guilty.
