A celebration of the art and spirit of fishing written in prose and verse, reflecting the author's connection to the River Dive in central England, Stafford, and parts of London. Written by Izaak Walton, an English writer. With an introduction by Andrew Lang, a Scottish poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. Illustrated by Edmund Joseph Sullivan, a British book illustrator recognised for his style which merged the British tradition of illustration from the 1860s with aspects of Art Nouveau. In the original green cloth binding with gilt decoration. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and the odd mark to the boards. Small splits in the cloth to the head of the spine with a crack to the front joint. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the endpapers. A contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Some of the textblock remains unopened. Good. book.

Full morocco with 2 raised bands and decoration in blind and gilt, cover hsows minro wear and rubbing, fading on the spine, small crack at the crown of the spine. Beautiful turn-ins with decoration in red and gilt, vignette doublures on both pastedowns with gilt tooling (an almost Jansenist-style with the simple outside case). Chemical marbling to the free endpapers with some offsetting around the edges. Pages are lightly tanned and clean. A beautiful edition in a unique binding with many illustrations.
