Original printed paper portfolio. Exquisite collection of nineteen photogravures by Adolf Lazi, depicting the following Roman ruins: - The Temple of Castor - The Roman Forum - The Via Sacra (crosses the Roman Forum from the East to the West) - The Temple of Vesta - The Arch of Titus - The baths of Caracalla - Two photogravures of the Via Appia (The Appian Way: One of the earliest and strategically most important Roman roads of the ancient Republic) - The Alexander Severus aqueduct - Fons Egeriae (the remains of an old Roman fountain) - The Porticus Octaviae - Three photogravures of The Palatine Hill - The Temple of Venus and Roma - Three photogravures of the Colosseum - The Arch of Constantine Each photographic plate measures 10 1/4 x 7 3/4 (image: 6 5/8 x 4 5/8"). Moderate age wear on folder wraps with spine and edges age toned. Head and tail of spine slightly chipped. Poem in German. Folder wraps in overall good- to good, interior in very good condition. About the photographer: Adolf Lazi (1884-1955) was a German photographer and sculptor, known as one of the founding fathers of product photography. Focusing on the stylistic and technical quality standard in photography, his works had a large impact on the objective style of still lifes and its popularity for business and marketing. After a few years working in Munich, Adolf Lazi moved to Paris, where he took up a position in the studio of Paul Nadar. At the outbreak of WWI, Lazi had to leave France and moved to the Black Forest, where he founded his own photo studio. In 1950 he founded the "Internationale Schule für Höhere Fotografie-Lazi" (International School of Higher Photography) in Stuttgart, which is nowadays known as the European School of Film and Design.
