Juni 1565 ebenda) war ein humanistischer Gelehrter. Er verfasste die erste gedruckte Stadtgeschichte Wiens, und fertigte als Kartograf eine Landbeschreibung Ungarns an. Er war Professor der Medizin an der Universität Wien und kaiserlicher Leibarzt von Ferdinand I. He amassed many documents from libraries across the Empire during his life, which probably informed this book. First published in Basel 1557. Als Vorlage für diese Karte diente eine der ältesten kartographischen Landesaufnahmen, nämlich die "Charta Chorographica" des Wolfgang Lazius. Die Karte reicht im Nordosten vom Marchfeld / Weinviertel / westliche Teile der Slowakei über Preßburg, Burgenland (mit Neusiedlersee) über westungarische Bereiche, die Südoststeiermark bis Slowenien (Pettau, Muregg, Marburg) im Südosten. Im Nordwesten vom Böhmischen Wald über Linz, Wilhering, Traunsee (Gmunden), Salzkammergut (Bad Aussee) bis Kärnten (Völkermarkt) im Südwesten. Gerard de Jode (ca. 1511-1591) war, etwa z9eitgleich mit seinem Konkurrenten Abraham Ortelius, Drucker, Publizist, Kartograph und Kupferstecher in Antwerpen. Sein Hauptwerk "Speculum Orbis Terrarum" erschien im Jahre 1578. Sein Sohn Cornelius de Jode legte den Atlas nochmals 1593 auf. Rückseite (Fol. 15) mit lateinischem Text: ". Austriae nomen . receti seculo natum est, ante annos circiter quadringentos, ab Austri . Cis Danubium è regione Viennae Noricae, seu Viennae Austriae, Carinthia montibus.".

Warmholtz is for the most part critical of the work and claims that no learned man has shown such ignorance when it comes to Swedish geography. Wolfgang Lazius (1514-65) was an Austrian humanist who worked as a cartographer, historian and physician. He was responsible for the imperial collections in Prague and wrote a history of Ferdinand I. Giuseppe Archimboldo's painting "The Librarian" has been considered to be a portrait of Lazius.
