First edition, limited issue. Number 165 of 250 numbered and specially bound copies. Poems commissioned by Steuben Glass for "an inspiration of design from poetry." First appearances of thirty-one "hitherto-unpublished poems from which our glass designers and artist associates [derived] themes for designs in crystal" (from the introductory essay by John Montheith Gates, VP Steuben Glass). Small 4to red-leather backed buckram boards stamped in gilt on front and spine; illustrated with black-and-white photographs of the Steuben Glass pieces created for the project with the poems used as inspiration on opposing pages; 86 pages including biographical sketches of poets and artists. In original, red-paper covered slipcase with white label printed in black and ruled in red. Fine in near fine slipcase with bump and small chip to one corner. Original prospectus laid in. ALSO INCLUDES an 8 x 10" original photograph of the Jeffers-inspired piece, "Birds and Fishes" as well typescript copy of his poem with "Commissioned by Steuben Glass/ (Copyright, 1963)/ Steuben Glass/ 3/25/63" at bottom and of his biographical sketch with "Steuben Glass/ 3/27/63" at bottom (both show crease from folding crease and touch of light edge wear).

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. First edition. Seven volume complete set of perhaps the most distinguished and sought after small press poetry magazine. Edited by Robert Creeley with assists variously by Charles Olson, Irving Layton, Allen Ginsberg and others. The house organ of Black Mountain College in the waning years of the school's existence. Featruing a who's who of mid-century American poets and artists. each of the first four issues featured illustrations by a different artist in each issue. Condition varies slightly between issues, but all are in very good condition. Issue 6 is signed by poet Charles Tomlinson. Issue 5 has a couple of small ink underlinings on one page. Issue 7, perhaps the rarest of the bunch is in particularly high condition and is distinguished by the fact that it has been SIGNED by Allen Ginsberg at his contribution. Issue 7 also features William Lee (a.k.a. William S Burroughs) who contributes a section from Naked Lunch. Scarce as a set.
