Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good dj. Illustrated by (dj) Leo Manso (illustrateur). First Edition. (price-clipped) [modest wear to book extremities, colorful vintage bookplate on front pastedown, vintage bookseller's label (Newbegin's, San Francisco) on rear pastedown; the jacket shows a bit of wear at the extremities, faint soiling to the rear panel, light age-toning overall]. "A Novel of Modern France," that interweaves the story of a 15-year-old French girl, and her efforts to resist the German occupiers of wartime France (and their French collaborators), with that of the Maid of Orleans, Joan of Arc, doing its best to parallel the two young women's experiences. A few months prior to the book's publication, it was widely reported that Hollywood producer Samuel Goldwyn had aquired the movie rights to the book, apparently intending it to be adapted as a starring vehicle for his contract actress Teresa Wright; the movie was never made, but Wright's next picture for Goldwyn was THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES.
