Etat : Fair. Thirty-First Edition. 202 pages. No dust jacket. Purple cloth with gilt lettering. Pages have mild tanning and foxing throughout. Heavy cracking to gutters, with exposed binding. Moderate tanning and foxing to endpapers. Mild thumb-marking present. Boards have heavy shelf-wear with bumping to corners, crushing to spine ends and rub wear all over. Heavy scratching and marking to boards. Notable tanning to board edges. Notable tearing to spine ends and cracking to rear joints. Binding is shaky.

Cover cloth darkened toward some edges and along spine panel (likely smoke damage), endpapers dampstained and stained by cover dye, page edges darkened, some leaves detached (but intact). Quite worn but complete and still useful copy, sold as is, with all faults. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Book.

In quite good burgundy coloured cloth boards, blind stamped logo and ruled edges and gilt titles to front, gilt titles to back strip. The covers are firm, some wear and marks; corners and spine cloth ends very bumped and frayed. Tanned and marked end papers, especially the free end papers. Name and date (1895) to front free end paper and in smaller hand to front paste down. Tanned cut edges. The text block is in good condition - lightly tanned around most page edges; firmly bound and straight. Some pages have sellotape up centre. No annotations etc. Without jacket.

This copy is in near fine condition bound in burgundy cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine and the upper board where there is also a blind thistle device. This copy is bright, tight, white and square There are some typical rubs and bumps to the extremities. There is a pencilled signature to the f.e.p. and a stamp of the issuing bookseller (Paterson, Sons & Co. Glasgow) A dustwrapper is not called for. International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased postal rates will be quoted, where the book weighs less then postage will be reduced accordingly. This copy is from the seventh edition which is undated however the attractive tissue guarded frontispiece 'Proud Maisie' is by Frederick Sandys. The drawing is one of a series that Sandys made in 1867, each of which is known by the title Proud Maisie, and which was inspired by Walter Scott?s poem Proud Maisie. The text of the poem, is set to music by Malcolm Lawson and is included in this book (pp 33). Ref AAA 1.
