Ajouter au panierHardcover, cloth. Etat : Near Fine. Chagall, Marc (illustrateur). First Edition, Limited printing. A near-fine first English edition of Chagall's monumental Ceiling of the Paris Opera, complete with all original lithographs?including the iconic frontispiece valued on its own at $2,000+?in an exceptional, investment-grade dust jacket. First English Edition. A magnificent near-fine copy in a near-fine dust jacket of this large quarto (approx. 12½" × 10"), documenting Marc Chagall's extraordinary 1964 commission to design and paint the new ceiling of the Paris Opera House. Bound in the publisher's pristine cloth, tight and square, with pages clean, bright, and entirely free of foxing. The dust jacket is equally well-preserved?richly colored, minimally worn, and not price-clipped?remarkably scarce in this condition given the book's size and fragility. This copy is complete with all original lithographs, including the celebrated frontispiece lithograph by Chagall (independently valued at $2,000+), the mounted folding "Final Study" inside the rear cover, all plates, color studies, and documentary photographs. A truly exemplary survival of a production often encountered incomplete or with separated plates. The volume features an introduction by art critic Jacques Lassaigne and Chagall's own remarks at the unveiling, charting the evolution of his project from early sketches to the radiant finished ceiling. Lavishly illustrated throughout with high-quality plates?many in color?capturing Chagall's luminous depictions of music, opera, and Parisian cultural life. Additional images gladly provided. Volume will be carefully wrapped and securely boxed for safe handling during transit, with international shipping available. Books have been stored in smoke-free environment. This would make an excellent gift or a distinguished addition to any fine library. [Hardcover; Limited Edition; Original Lithographs; Illustrated; Dust Jacket.].

Beige cloth boards with illustration in black on the front cover, black lettering on the spine. Illustrated endpapers. Original torn publisher's belly band laid in at the interior front cover. All images are finely printed, mostly in high quality offset, with a few b/w images being lithographic. Beige cloth boards with illustration in black on the front cover, black lettering on the spine. Illustrated endpapers. Original torn publisher's belly band laid in at the interior front cover. This unique copy contains two inscriptions to former president of Israel Zalman Shazar (1889-1974), in pen on the title page. One at the top is a 75th birthday gift inscription in Hebrew from a unidentified friend of Shazar, and below it is another warm inscription from artist Marc Chagall in Yiddish, dated 1964. Chagall writes: "In honor of the president and my good friend Z. Shazar, with love, Marc Chagall, Jerusalem 1964". It can be assumed that Shazar's friend gave him the book as a gift and Marc Chagall, who was present at the time, also inscribed it to him.
