Etat : new. (Hardcover, 2006). (1906) 2006 2nd Medlar issue. Small 8vo hardback (142 x 200mm). Pp196. B/w vignette illustrations by Paul Cook. Volume II of the Medlar Classics Series. Green boards, spine titled in gilt. Fine new copy in dust-wrapper. This is the second Medlar Angling Classics issue. Initially only a few copies were produced in paperback before the publishers relaunched the series in this higher quality hardback binding with an attractive dust-wrapper. "This volume does not pretend to be a guide to fishing, in the ordinary cut-and-dried sense of the term; but in its pages I take you into my confidence, and talk to you as one old fisherman talks to his mates, telling you what I saw on the various waters, the fish I found, how I succeeded and how I failed. This book is a plain statement of fact and personal experiences, the pages of which furnish glimpses of natural history, descriptions of the waters and their characteristics, scenery and surroundings, together with a few historical notes connected therewith, which will perhaps have more than a passing interest for the wandering angler." Chapters include: Introductory remarks; The roach fisherman of the Fens; Bush fishing for perch (on the banks of the Witham); Trouting in a tiny brook (the Nottinghamshire Greet); A winter's day down the Lower Trent; The Lower Trent (piscatorially and historically considered); A Christmas dish (winter chub fishing); A New Year's bag (thoughts and experiences on the Great Ouse); Days among the barbel (on the Trent, Thames, and Kennet); With the chub, and a fly rod; Eddy and stream (cadbaits and wasp-grubs in the early summer); Pikey days and pikey ways; The postman's knock - dibbling with insects, alive and dead; Days and nights with the bream; By lake and mere; Concerning roach; A mixed basket. .

Hardcover. Etat : Good. Limited Edition. Xii + 255 pages + 6 page index. With 17 photo plates including a lovely frontispiece of the author and his "his netsman", this frontis has a tiny piece missing at outer edge, photo not affected. Green and gilt embossed cloth boards rubbed and with light old ring stain on top board, faint but noticeable and the rubbing at extreme edges mostly. Printed on thicker paper. Numbered 28 (of 150?) copies and the authors signature on endpaper. Endpaper dusty and also endpapers front and rear have some watermarking stains at edges in, this more noticeable on the back endpapers and up to the gutter of last leaf of index, front endpaper very pale residue only. A GOOD copy with contents better. A scarce angling title and LOW limitation number on this copy all added in ink by the author. *Notable for the foxing and poor survival rate, this copy handled and with the endpapers with issues is detracting but not rebound as the few copies that do appear usually are. Scarce without repairs. Signed by Author(s).
