Leather Bound. pp. 561, [21]. 12mo. Bound in full contemporary leather; raised bands to the spine. The binding is in poor condition, with heavy wear to the boards, spine partially gone, exposing cords, hinges tender but intact, contents remarkably clean, with only the usual age-toning. Sully (1560-1641) was a Huguenot soldier, financier, and statesman who became Henry IV's chief minister and, under his often autocratic guidance, restored stability (and solvency) to France's affairs. He left a collections of memoirs, written in the second person (first published in 1634), which are valuable as a history of the times. Our offering is the second volume of these memoirs, commencing with chapter 71 and concluding with a comprehensive Table of Contents. Colophon states that this edition was printed at Rouen, France, on September 28, 1663, to be sold in Paris by Thomas Jolly.
